[Hong Kong, Mar 2013] SHINEWING Specialist Advisory Services team organized a series of Forensic and Investigation Workshops, with the topics of “Digital Forensics and beyond” on 6 March 2013 and “Building up your digital evidence – e-discovery” on 20 March 2013.

 

Business disputes usually involve disagreement amongst shareholders or family members, breaches of contracts, suspected fraud, employee misconduct, litigation or asset tracing. In the workshops, several areas have been discussed, including digital investigations, digital evidence and computers, digital evidence awareness and related challenges, the approach of a computer examiner, modus operandi and motives – suspect profiling and evolution of computer forensics and crime.

 


 

Mr. Roy Lo and Ms. Gloria So were invited by HKICPA to be speakers in a Workshop about Corporate Governance

[Hong Kong, Mar 2013] Mr. Roy Lo, Deputy Managing Partner and Ms. Gloria So, Risk Manager were invited by HKICPA to be speakers in a workshop, with the topic of "Review of Corporate Governance Code and Associated Listing Rules", on 9 March 2013. The seminar was well-received by around 120 audiences.

 

Corporate governance is important in enhancing public confidence and trust, promoting competitiveness and ultimately improving the Company’s public image and values. The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited released amendments to the Corporate Governance Code and Associated Listing Rules of Main Board / GEM Board in October 2011 to promote the development of higher corporate governance standards in Hong Kong. In the workshop, Mr. Roy Lo and Ms. Gloria So talked about the implementation of revised Corporate Governance Code and Associated Listing Rules and its progress.

 

 

 


 

Mr. Roy Lo and Ms. Gloria So were invited by HKICPA to be speakers in a seminar about Environmental Social and Governance factors

[Hong Kong, Mar 2013] Mr. Roy Lo, Deputy Managing Partner and Ms. Gloria So, Risk Manager were invited by HKICPA to be speakers in a seminar, with the topic of "Environmental Social and Governance Factors of Listed Companies in Hong Kong", on 11 March 2013.

 

CSR (including environmental, social and governance issues) has always been an integral part of HKEx’s business strategy and management approach. In the seminar, Mr. Roy Lo and Ms. Gloria So discussed the steps recommended by HKEx to raise environmental, social and governance (ESG) awareness among Hong Kong issuers and how to adopt ESG reporting.

 

 

 


 

Mr. Roy Lo was invited to speak at an academic talk at School for Higher and Professional Education (SHAPE)

[Hong Kong, Mar 2013] Mr. Roy Lo was invited by School for Higher and Professional Education (SHAPE), to speak in an academic talk related to Accounting and Finance on the Information Day held on 23 March 2013.  The topic of the talk was “Development & Opportunities – Accounting Industry in Hong Kong & China”.  Mr. Roy Lo mentioned that the demand for accounting talents remained hot, with more private enterprises going listed in Hong Kong in the recent years as well as the increasing number of mergers and acquisitions. He advised students who were interested in being an accountant that they should have career planning timely and start to build up their personal branding.

 

SHAPE, being a member of the VTC group, caters for the needs of and offers a wide range of tailor-made programmes to VTC's Higher Diploma graduates. These include accounting and finance, applied science, business management, Chinese medicinal pharmaceutics, computer science, design, engineering, hospitality and tourism and marketing.

 

 


 

Mr. Roy Lo and Ms. Gloria So were invited by CPA Australia to be speakers in a seminar about Corporate Governance Code update and Environmental, Social and Governance factors for listed companies in Hong Kong

[Hong Kong, Mar 2013] Mr. Roy Lo, Deputy Managing Partner and Ms. Gloria So, Risk Manager were invited by CPA Australia to be speakers in a seminar, with the topic of "Corporate Governance Code update and Environmental, Social and Governance factors for listed companies in Hong Kong", on 25 March 2013.

 

Mr. Roy Lo and Ms. Gloria So talked about the consultation conclusions on proposed changes to the Corporate Governance Code and Corporate Governance Report concerning board diversity. They also introduced the Environmental, Social and Governance report and pointed out the benefits of the reporting for the market.

 


 

Mr. Roy Lo and Ms. Gloria So were invited by HKICPA to be speakers in a seminar about Laws and Regulations on Inside Information

[Hong Kong, Apr 2013] Mr. Roy Lo, Deputy Managing Partner and Ms. Gloria So, Risk Manager were invited by HKICPA to be speakers in a seminar, with the topic of "Laws and Regulations on Inside Information", on 10 April 2013.

 

They shared the details about inside information, such as what constitutes inside information, when and how inside information should be disclosed, responsibilities for management control, etc. The objectives of the seminar were to help the management level of listed companies understand the importance on Guidelines and have a better preparation for the enforcement of the relevant laws and regulations.

[Hong Kong, May 2013] Mr. Roy Lo, Deputy Managing Partner and Ms. Gloria So, Risk Manager were invited by HKICS to be speakers in a seminar, with the topic of "Environmental Social and Governance factors for listed companies in Hong Kong", on 3 May 2013.

 

The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited has published its Consultation Conclusions on Environmental, Social and Governance Reporting Guide. The guide would be implemented as 'recommended practice' at the time being, but would be escalated to "comply or explain" basis by 2015.

 

 


 

 

Mr. Terry Kan and Ms. Anita Hou were invited by HKICPA to be speakers in the course of Insolvency Preparatory I

[Hong Kong, May 2013] Mr. Terry Kan and Ms. Anita Hou, Partners of Specialist Advisory Services, were invited by HKICPA to be speakers in the course of Insolvency Preparatory I (Session 4), with the topic of Overview of Administrations and Priorities of Creditors, on 4 May 2013.

The course focused on broad knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of insolvency administration. Practical issues were emphasized in Session 4, including order of payment/ priorities, provable debts, PWIF/ employee claims, secured creditors, retention of title, ascertaining creditors’ claims – process for submission/ adjudication and procedures for declaring dividends.

 


 

Mr. Terry Kan was invited by HKICPA to be speaker in a workshop of Diploma Course in Insolvency 2012/ 2013

[Hong Kong, May 2013] Mr. Terry Kan, Partners of Specialist Advisory Services, was invited by HKICPA to be speaker in workshop 9 of the Diploma Course in Insolvency 2012/ 2013, with the topic of Personal Insolvency – IVAs, on 25 May 2013.

In the workshop, Mr. Terry Kan recapped the key VA processes, documentation and recent cases. He also explained practical advice for preparing a VA proposal, the meeting of creditors and voting the approach of financial creditors. There was also a role play session in the workshop to strengthen the attendants’’ understandings on the said issues.

 


 

Mr. Andy Wong was invited by HKICPA to be a speaker in a workshop about auditing PRC companies

[Hong Kong, Jun 2013] Mr. Andy Wong, Partner was invited by HKICPA to be the speaker in a workshop, with the topic of "Issues in Auditing PRC Companies", on 1 June 2013.

 

Due to the unique business environment and practices in the Mainland China, auditors may encounter issues in auditing PRC companies. In this workshop, Mr. Andy Wong discussed and shared his experience in handling some common audit issues for PRC companies.
